Sembawang CC Futsal competitoin

Recently some of our boys had a chance to participate in a 5 a side futsal competition organised by Sembawang CC.  One team was made up of Sec 1 players while the other team comprised of Sec 2 players. Our Sec 2 players did pretty well and walked away with third place, earning themselves a nice little trophy and $75 worth of vouchers.

March Holiday Trainings

Please remember to refer to the training schedule for the latest updates!

C Boys Round 2 Game 2

Sometimes you have to win ugly. All teams go through a time when they are not playing well and the system seems broken but somehow with resilience and willpower they win the game. That is exactly what Marsiling did, managing to grind out a win against Woodlands sec despite not playing up to mark. So now once again our fate lies in our own hands, together with another fateful meeting with the Singapore Sports School. We have beaten them before, so there is every chance we can do it again!

C Boys Competition Round 2 Game 1

So the first game of the second round started. Although we played well and had good chances, the opponents had good chances too, with our goalkeeper making several fine saves. Unfortunately we lost the match 1-0 and so our next match against Sports School is a must-win situation. We have been in this position before and have overcome the odds to progress. So lets go Marsiling!!

B Boys Competition Round 2 Game 3

So the final game was of no consequence as both teams were already out. And it was a 40 minute game as it was the second half of a postponed game. Both teams played with a competitive but fair spirit and the game ended 2-2.

C Boys Competition Round 1 Game 5

So... the last game of the round. Against Sembawang. Winner takes all. We told our boys to go all out for a win because to do anything else would be to invite additional pressure on ourselves. The match was slightly in favour of Sembawang in the first half but our defense held firm and neither side created any real clear-cut chances. We had more control in the second half and had a stronger attacking display but could not find the back of the net.

The last 5 minutes was a frantic and helter skelter affair as Sembawang attacked furiously in an attempt to find a winning goal. At one point almost all the players from both sides were in our penalty box but we hung on! At the final whistle the Sembawang players slumped to the ground and many shed tears of anguish... Our player stood around clueless at first but soon started to rejoice when they saw the teachers celebrating and it finally dawned on them that they had progressed via goal difference. It was truly an unforgettable match!

B Boys Competition Round 2 Game 2

After the postponed game against Christchurch which was still in the balance at 0-0, Marsiling had the chance to take a step forwards towards the semi-finals with a match against Fuchun. In the first half it was quite even but Fuchun managed to take the lead. We equalised soon after with Ahmad scoring his 5th goal of the competition and we took the lead with a great header from Amir.

Unfortunately it was not to be our day and Fuchun fought back strongly and managed to slice through our defence 2 more times to win the game 3-2. Our boys were gutted as they knew they had thrown away a great opportunity.

Although a sad day, I think they can hold their heads up and say that they really tried their best. That is the reality of sports and competition. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but you always pick yourself up, show resilience and determination, and look forward to the next game.

C Boys Competition Round 1 Game 4

So today was a crucial match against Siling. We had to win in order to have a chance to qualify for the next round. It was a fairly even battle and we had a penalty that was saved by their goalkeeper. In the end we proved to be just a little better and scored 2 goals, with Danial grabbing both of them. There were 2 'man of the match' this time round for their sheer hard work and determination; congratulations Nabil and Irfan!

B Boys - Our First Loss

So we started round 2 of the North Zone competition against a well-drilled Sembawang side who deployed fast wingers and an attack that hinged on their No.10. Despite trying their best the boys conceded 2 goals, one in each half, due to individual errors. Despite this loss, we are still in with a chance to qualify for the final four. We just have to do our part and play with all our hearts and win the next two games.

B Boys Preparing for Round 2

It was made known to us at the last minute that the B Boys second round of games was brought forward to Monday 16th of February. So to prepare for the game we had to organise a last minute training session on Friday afternoon.

C Boys Competition Round 1 Game 3

Its the third game of the competition and our boys played against Bowen Sec. Overall in terms of skill and stamina our players could match them but mentally we were not as strong. From the beginning it seemed our players were overawed by the physical size of our opponents. Although we had better possession in the first half we did not have the cutting edge to finish of our attacks. We were duly punished about 10 minutes before half time when a throw in was allowed to bounce above our defender's heads and their striker scored with a header.

In the second half we made several changes but once again despite matching them in midfield our attack proved ineffective. Bowen then scored when their striker caught our goalkeeper out of position when he tried to rush out to clear away a through-ball in the final minutes. So the game ended with us losing 2-0.

C Boys Competition Round 1 Game 2

Our second game was against Yishun on a hot afternoon. Kick-off was 3pm and within the first 5 minutes of the match, Danial scored an stunning long range shot that beat the keeper and bulged the net. The match was intense but Marsiling had better possession. Around 25 minutes, Sufi dribbled passed not 1, not 2 but 3 defenders and scored into the bottom left corner.
Minutes later, there was a poor clearance by one of our defender that lead to a goal by Yishun. But that didn't disheartened the team and Baqir scored a excellent header from a corner by Danial as the first half ended.

The 2nd half started brightly and Marsiling kept their possesion before Arifeen scored a sublime long range shot into the top corner making it 4-1. Akasyah attempted a free kick but unluckily the ball hit the crossbar; it could have been a spectacular goal.

Azriq was having a better game today, running past defenders and was tripped by the opponent in the penalty box, PENALTY! And subsequently Danial scored it comfortably.  Minutes later, Danial lived up to expectation and completed his hat trick with an amazing free kick, making the score at 6-1. Excellent job Marsiling!

SG50 Hougang Community Soccer Fiesta

Brought some of our boys down to Kovan Sports Hall to take part in this fun event on Saturday, 7th February. It was a penalty shootout competition. Although they did not win any medals, they had a whole load of fun!

C Boys Marsiling Roar!!!

Our C Boys doing the Marsiling Roar!!!

C Boys Competition Round 1 Game 1

Our C Boys kicked off their competition today against a tough and well drilled North Vista side. Truth be told we were lucky in many aspects. Our players found it tough going under the hot 3pm sun and the opponent's robust play. On many occasions it was the safe hands and commanding play of our goalkeeper that kept us out of trouble and gave confidence to the rest of the team. With North Vista unable to score despite their pressure, we took the lead shortly before half time via a long range effort by Danial. That deflated our opponents a little and we held firm till half time.

We toughened up mentally in the second half and were able to match the physical play of our opponents, which enabled us to win more balls in the middle of the field. We gave as good as we got and manage to win a corner. Danial delivered a pin-point ball and Baqir powered in a header for our second goal! We then defended resolutely for a 2-0 win.

Overall a good start against a tough opponent.

Man of the match: Isma

The competition so far...

Since the very close 2-1 win against Serangoon Sec, the Marsiling school team has gone on to win against both Pei Hwa and Ahmad Ibrahim. Although this secures our progress into the second round of the competition, we will still play our best in our final game against Canberra, out of respect for the competition as well as the other teams who may be depending on the outcome of the game. That is the TRUE spirit of being an athlete. GO MARSILING!!!

Marsiling ROAR!!!

B Boys North Zone Competition Game 1

Monday, 19th January, 2015

Today marks the start of the B Boys North Zone Competition. Our first game was a tough assignment against Serangoon Secondary School at their home ground. Needless to say everyone was nervous but at the same time determined to start on a winning note.
In the opening phases of the game we dominated play but Serangoon took the lead with one of their short spell of possession. This deflated our boys somewhat and Serangoon then took the upper hand. But we held firm and managed to carve out an equalizer before half time.
The second half was a tense affair which led to some heated moments between the players but we were finally able to take the lead after their goalkeeper fumbled a free kick.
Marsiling then showed great resilience to hang on for the win!
Final score Marsiling 2 - Serangoon 1
